Fr. Frank update

2007-06-28 08:04:26

Hi all!
A few weeks ago I asked those who pray for the sick
to keep our former pastor in their prayers. He had
lapsed into a coma and was on life support. I'm sorry
to say he passed away. He never came out of the coma.
It was a very peaceful passing. Thanks to all who
kept him in their prayers.
My house cleaning is going well. My sister came
over this past Sunday to help. We got quite a bit
done! She worked in the kitchen while I tackled the
living room. We have a lot more work ahead of us but
it will come in time. I am still on no mail delivery
for a few weeks.
I want to wish everyone a Happy Halloween! The
weather here is in the 30's/40's. My sister is
freezing....she had lived in Flordia for 30 years
prior to moving here this past June.
Take care all. I think of the group every day and
look forward to the time I will start back up with the
mail.

well,
java is a programming language mostly associated with the internet. it is
usually installed as part of the web browser. java programs run inside the
browser but to do that the browser needs to know where the appropriate java
run time(this is usually installed when installing your individual browser)
environment is on the pc. if i could make a suggestion . try downloading and
installing the latest browser from mozilla at http://www.mozilla.org/ i have
been using this browser for at least two weeks and have made it my default

TODAY MARKS THE KICK OFF OF OUR NATIONAL CALL-IN WEEK FOR HEART
DISEASE AND STROKE RESEARCH AND PREVENTION. PLEASE MAKE YOUR CALL
(888) 315-8368 AND PASS THIS MESSAGE ALONG.
National Call-in Week for Heart Disease & Stroke Research &
Prevention - October 21-25, 2002. Call Toll Free (888) 315-8368 (open
from 9:00 to 5:00 p.m. EDT).
A small investment of your time could lead to a significant
investment in the fight against the nation's leading killers. Please
take a minute to call the President, at no cost to you, at (888) 315-
8368 to advance the battle against heart disease and stroke.
Heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases:
· Remain America's No. 1 killer and a major cause of permanent
disability:
· Heart disease, alone, is the nation's No. 1 killer; and
· Stroke is the No. 3 killer.
· Cost more than any other disease - an estimated $330 billion in
medical expenses and lost productivity this year; and
· Affect nearly 62 million Americans of all ages.
Yet
· National Institutes of Health invests only 8% of its budget on
heart research and a mere 1% on stroke.
· Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provides only 8 states
with funding to implement programs to prevent and control heart
disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases.
But
Making a difference in the fight against heart disease and stroke is
just a toll free call away. Congress is still working on the fiscal
year (FY) 2003 budget, but the President is already developing his FY
2004 budget. Please take a minute to call (888) 315-8368 (open from
9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EDT) between October 21-25 to be connected to
the White House comment line to urge the President to make funding
for heart disease and stroke research and prevention a top priority
in his FY 2004 budget.
The American Heart Association is sponsoring this nationwide call-in
week to encourage the President to make funding for heart disease and
stroke research and prevention a top priority. We need your help!
Please make this brief call and forward this appeal to American Heart
Association volunteers as well as friends and family members and ask
them to do the same. Thank you for your support!

Steve, Looks like you're getting a rally good response and lots of welcomes
from the great folks in our group. My stroke--the PFO variety(who knew?)--hit on
a sunny Sunday in the early fall of 1999(I was exactly 52 yrs, 9 months old that
day) when I took a break from painting the house to gab with a neighbor(whose
presence saved my life!).I didn't know anything was wrong until my speech
suddenly made no sense and I fell off my stool into the gravel. It's been three
years now, and I've come far in my new life--but have far to go. I'm thankful
for the blessings of each day.

Letter for all to read

2007-06-19 04:56:13

To Whom it may concern
This consists of only about a tenth (or less known) about strokes and I can bet
most of you aren't even aware of these facts. These are the most misunderstood
symptoms known to mainly everyone at this time as well as misdiagnosed and
mistreated often, why? Because they are often disgused as other problems besides
this one.
I like to refer to this illness as the "Medical professions/researchers, Dirty
Little Secret" because it isn't all apples to apples to treat. It is under
researched, misdiagnosed, misunderstood and mistreated because IT DOES disguise
itself like so many other problems/illnesses.
This is the most devastating affliction anyone can imagine. Being a prisoner
inside your own body...It hasen't any prejudices, rhyme or reason usually for
striking. No real anything but vague symtoms that come and go.
I have a family am a former body builder, aerobic instructor and worked as a
pharmacy tech also. Cancer, heart disease and many other diseases run rampant in
my family history. I took care of my 47 year old self with regular
cardiovascular exercise and a good diet...so I thought I was safe...how wrong I
was.
It sent my family and myself into a tail spin. It robs you not only finacially
but of your most basic of life functions...you cannot exist as who you once were
nor have the ability to do what you once did...Some individuals and I stress
SOME regain good fuction back, most however do not.
For some reason this is viewed as only an "OLD PERSON'S" illness with no return
to real living...But as a person who is young and did all the right
things...(health wise) I can tell you this can happen to anyone..even women
carrying babies in utero...
With older people it does the samething but with a young person many times we do
not know what causes it...especially when you are doing all the "right" things
and think life is good. Suddenly most are battling for disability benefits as
well as trying to do what they can for themselves, familywise, independance
wise, emotionally and financially as well all at once...very overwhelming. No
one can imagine what this is like. YOU are never prepared for this because this
isn't in the "main plan"...but a terrible, terrible nightmar it is.
Not one person has experienced first hand the everday realities and horror than
the people on my cyber support email list group. The cries, sorrow and need for
help with disability insurance and everyday living....no one can experience the
confussion of what can be wrong but others who have or ARE living with this.
Some serious explanations are in order. Questions NEED to be asked and folks,
drs alike, NEED to educate themselves to this. We deserve the time and
education. We have a voice and that voice DEMANDS some attention...WE ARE THE
NEW FACES OF STROKE AND DESERVE RECOGNITION. More must be done to help those who
cannot help themselves. Everyday I see it in email...."How long do I have to put
up with this? Will it ever end? Is it just ME?"
We have a center to be proud of...I know this first hand...My life was saved by
the right doctor, right diagnosis and timing...I hear many since this time
though that have not had this kind of luck...It makes me very frustrated, sad
and angry.
We deserve and demand better as a group...care, treatment and rehabilitation,
therapies that are not being administered correctly nor quickly enough, so it
appears. Partly is because of Insurances, this I know, which needs restucturing
as well and partly because of appathy. (which is unfair)
I, for one of thousands would like to see increased screening for stroke,
heightened awareness to known risk factors. as well as the proper care and
treatment to be administered for current/future stroke patients.
I myself, would enjoy to see a seminar on this, during which I wish to be part
of in some way or other.
I would like then to propose a volunteer "Mentor" program. For other stroke
survivors for their family members and or caregivers. Mentors will be educated
from pamplets by the National Stroke Association or American Stroke Association
and by willing members from the staff at hospital. If they have access to the
internet there is a support group there who can is ready to help, they are a
wonderful 70 member + group that can help immensely. A connection to the
internet is all that is needed to access this valuable resource.
This will all be utilized on a "volunteer basis" I myself would help with that
utilization as well. Patients and their families need help to understand what
has happened to them and what long terms affects to expect.
These folks deserve and need information which could be accessed by contacting
The National Stroke Association or the American Stroke Association BOTH have a
wealth of info on their websites. BOTH of these in conjunction with a Mentor
would be therapeutic to ALL involved.
A volunteer financial/insurance expert is needed to help advise on disability
and the information of how to access it...a patient advocate I guess you could
say. This is not only physically and emotionally disabling affliction but a
financial one which needs to be addresseed promptly. Remember, this is hitting
younger people 50 and under ALL the time...even children!
I myself was one of the lucky ones...but not all are this fortunate...some are
able to do some sound budgeting but most are left to wondering about adequate
shelter and food to eat. The right help from the right direction immediately can
cut time and save many dignities.
Doing research on, asking the right questions, understanding medication, effects
and or alternatives in other words...what is best for the Strokesurvivor. Along
side each other we can make a difference and want to.
I understand the whole senerio...I work closely with my doctors and also done
much research myself. This doesn't make me a specialist nor do I "have all the
answers" but it helps me understand this all better. Not many strokesurvivors
understand well so assistance is needed. Things are much easier for everyone, by
doing this.
I have days I can and days I can't...those who understand strokes know
this...This is something that the person on the street doesn't understand, but
in today's society SHOULD understand.
We live in a world of "Shake it off" which is sad...we wish we could...but we
can't...so we need to have those who don't understand it, UNDERSTAND IT.
We can and we owe it to ALL stroke patientsto DO SOMETHING to help them...I am a
5 yr survivor...I know how it feels...I know I lived for a reason...to see this
happen at a place that SAVED MY LIFE!
Mountains are meant to be climbed and the rivers are meant to be forged...the
time is NOW for all the above...we can't let ourselves, nor anyone else for that
matter..

have accused me of and seems to be what people think since I had a
stroke so young. I now tell them, "NO I DIDN'T DO DRUGS BEFORE BUT I
TAKE A HELL OF A LOT OF THEM NOW. ARE YOU GONNA GIVE ME SOMETHING

if she DOES go there with you to chew their asses.

Dear Sheri,
I hope you're keeping well. The weather here is lousy - cold and damp - at
the moment, but not to worry as we're off to Sicily on Wednesday for two
weeks holiday. So, don't worry about not hearing anything from me until the
middle of the week after next - we're coming back on November 6.
All the best, Sheri, and take care.

We babysat Kaitlyn yesterday awhile...Lord I had to laugh, cry and smile. I was
in my puter room talking on IM with my daughter and heard grandpa singing a made
up tune to Kaitlyn ..It was so cute!!! She is easy to take care of. As long as
she has clean diddies, and a full tummy she just sits and looks around
talking...otherwise sleeps...What a kid!!!

cheap memory recorders

2007-06-15 15:31:47

you know you can buy a pen recorder in the toy section of most department
stores it's called a Yakback. usually costs about $5 it's a toy for kids but
it works for $5 who cares if you lose it at that price!

Drug use

2007-06-15 15:27:11

Del, I'm not bothered. I was never a druggie myself, but I spent
more than my share of time, walking people through bad LSD trips,
consoling them when their girlfriends died of heroin overdose, etc.
In "younger people," up to 20% of strokes are due to illicit drug
use, mainly cocaine use. The stroke course that shows that
statistic, on a slide, has been making the rounds, so doctors are
acutely aware of the problem -- especially in Las Vegas, where I
live. As you are painfully aware, bleeding strokes from drug use are
very dangerous, and deserve rapid treatment. A substantial bleed on
the pons is almost always fatal.
Unfortunately, our local doctors seem unaware of this other
statistic: about 20% of younger people stroke from neck trauma,
particularly from cervical dissections. I wish that for all the
times the ER personnel asked me about illicit drug use, they had at
least once asked me about neck trauma.

Re: Neurologist

2007-06-15 06:48:30

I've seen both a neuro psychologist as an out patient and as an inpatient.
the inpatient one was useless and over paid! the outpatient one was great
she helped my husband and I get our issues out and we discussed them without
me turning into the nasty bitch I can be so I found it helpful but you have a
right to be depressed, you've been through hell recently and everything
is physically in your head really, the trauma everything stems from there. What
a stupid-ass statement to make to a stroke survivor!keep your chin up Kerri.

Drugs

2007-06-11 04:29:52

Ah Del?
Some of us....ummmm......like me have a pretty colorful past. I
smoked for 17 years, had a problem drinking and using everything but
heroin and ectasy. Don't feel bad dude. This was my wake up call to
straighten out and start flying right. Not many are lucky enough to
get a second chance at life. We are the lucky ones :) I know I'm
trying my hardest to live right now and that's all that matters
now...life is good.

Neurologist

2007-06-10 23:18:19

This guy sounds like another arrogant "I'm always right" prick.
Neuro Psychologists (sp?) specialize in the various mental and
cognitive problems we face. I'm 3 years post stroke and I need to
see one. So it's not like this is an ok thing overnight. I would go
see one of these instead, get a new Neurologist and interview your
drs! come right out and ask them about their stroke experience if you
have to. If something is about them you do not like don't go there.
They are working for you...YOU are the boss! and don't feel bad if
you have to fire one. A little advice from someone who's been there.

Can you guys friggin beleive this?

2007-06-10 13:02:13

I JUST GOT THIS TODAY FROM THE AMERICAN STROKE ASSOCIATION. LOOKS
LIKE WE'RE GETTING SOMEWHERE FOR A CHANGE :)
Dear Kristi, Can you tell me your city and state and your mailing
address? I have included information about your experience with brain
stem stroke in an article for the January/February 2003 issue of
Stroke Connection Magazine. I wanted to send you copies of the
magazine when it comes out. If you want to see the article before it
goes to print, I can email that to you. It contains a few paragraphs
about your experience.
Thank you very much. Emily

DONNA C. MY HUSBAND SOUNDS LIKE HE WAS MADE FROM THE SAME MOULD. HE
SAYS 'FAT' PEOPLE DISGUST HIM AND I HAVE SINCE GAINED A LOT OF WEIGHT
THIS PAST YEAR. I though am :{"lucky" because his drive is stronger
than his attitude about fat. You never said what is your husband like
is he "fat"? Mine is skinny and he hates that word but at 6foot
2inches and 160pounds thats what I call it. No I am no longer the
size 5 woman I was but I am an even better, healthier person than then
(even after this dang stroke). I got where I won't even eat in front

stroke support friends, since i played a little bit of guitar before my stroke
i thought wouldn't it be neat to put my experience and feelings to lyrics or a
poem of some sort. so here 'tis:
keep in mind i have no experience at these things and anyone who knows anything
about poetry could tear the thing apart.): i was trying to describe that even
though the stroke changed me externally and somewhat internally, deep down it
was still ralph stalnecker in the shell, hense the title.
i'm still here but i'm not
by ralph stalnecker
(who is no david bowie or bob dylan or McCartney or Lennon)
I'm still here but i'm not
i still hear my friends say
a stroke at your age what?!
i miss the days of yore
when i could do the simple things
without them being such a chore
daily living is different from yore
even a favorite trip to the shore
brought out the knowlege that
life is not as before
not a day goes by that i don't
curse this stroke and what it has
done.
i'm still here but i'm not
i lost a battle with a clot
i watch as life goes on around me
wishing i could join in
with energy, humor, and excitement.
i wrestle with why i'm burdened with this cross
at times almost toomuch to bear
like days when i can't even decide what to wear
did i do something to anger my maker?
but then i'm told its just the luck of
a damaged artery and a clot..
i'm still here but i'm not
i'm told i knocked at death's door
but my maker saw fit to keep
me from the morgue drawer
the message is clear
i've still got some things to do here
my faith tells me the future not to fear
my stroke support friends tell me that
time will heal the wounds
i look forward to the day when i can
look back and say i went through what?

would be real uncomfortable.

FALLIN' APART
There's quite an art to falling apart ....
as these years go by.
And life Doesn't begin at 40 ....
That's a Big Fat Lie!
My hair's gettin' thinner ....
my Body is Not.
The few Teeth I have ....
are beginning to Rot!
I smell of Vick's-Vapo-Rub ....
Not Chanel #5.
My new Pacemaker's all ....
that keepin' me alive!
When asked of my past ....
Every Detail I'll know.
But what was I doin' ....
just 10 minutes ago?
Well, you get the Idea ....
what More can I say?
I'm off to read the Obits ....
like I do every Day.
If my name is not there ....
I'll once again Start -
Perfecting the Art ....
Of Falling Apart!
But til' That Last Curtain ....
Decides to Fall,
I'm gonna' have ....
Myself a Ball!

Heather
I wish you and yours comfort and peace during this diffucult time. I
like your Sister have never been baptised and do not believe in any
formal religions. I am not at all afraid to die, life continues onto
a different plane of being after your lifeforce leaves it's body here
on this earth. I'm sure you'll meet again someday :) I wish you
peace.

I would like to ask you all to please pray for me, my sister Shae Lynn Morris
and especially my parents.
My one and only sister passed away yesterday at the age of 38. She was
diagnosed with Nodular Menaloma 2 1/2 years ago and 6 months ago found out it
spread to her brain. She was actually doing very well with treatments but
ended up getting a fungal infection and since her bodies immune system was
weakened by the cancer and cancer meds plus radiation she just went to sleep.
Literally. She was awake (in the hospital for the fungal infection)
watching tv with her husband and then she fell asleep, she woke up once and
looked at him in a very peaceful way and then just drifted off and was gone.
She was residing in Denmark with her husband who is Danish. There will be a
service over there next week Friday then she is being cremated and brought
back here by her husband and his mother (my dad also since he is going for
her funeral over there). Then we are having a service here on Halloween (if
you knew my sister you would know that this is perfect, it was her favorite
holiday and she loved that stuff). Then, my to my full devastation, she is
being taken back to Denmark to be buried. I won't have anywhere to visit or
talk to her. I think that is making this so much harder.
The feelings I have are undescribable. This is a hurt I don't know how to
overcome or live with. I will grow up alone with out my sister. I will
watch my parents die without my sister and I will have to take care of that
all by myself. I have no one to share my frustrations about my mom with. I
have no one to call when I am bored at midnight because I can't sleep. I
will no longer be able to just call her to ask a question. I don't know why
God had to take her. I can't stop crying and I can't stop thinking about it.
I can't sleep and I dont' want to eat. I know I have to special kids to
take care of but I just don't want to right now.
I was able to talk to Shae on Monday and I did get to tell her that I loved
her and she said I love you too. Atleast I got to tell her I loved her. But
why didn't I get to say good-bye? Shae was never baptized and she didn't
believe in a God per say. I am petrified she is gone to me for all eternity
but I am trying to believe that God is an all loving God and he will forgive
her for this.
I will forever miss my sister. I will forever think of her and I don't know
how I am going to live the next 40 some years without her. I am saddened
that my children will never know how much of a wonderful person she was.
They won't even remember she existed when they are older. I am finding this
whole thing very cruel.
I am sorry to dump but typing about it seems to help.
Thanks for listening!

A lot of people make the mistake of equating what the average person
does, statistically... with what the average person CAN do. For
example, the average male high school student can do one pull-up, no
more. But chances are, if an individual spent a very modest amount
of time per week in exercise, he could eventually do a lot more pull-
ups.
A lot of stroke statistics are developed from the elderly, who are
often quite sick with other conditions at the time of stroke (stroke
often comes as a consequence of heart problems), and really don't
have the strength or will to improve. Good physical therapy is
crucial for keeping up motivation in the early stages, and sadly, not
many people get good PT.
I can understand the motivation problem. I spend a minimum of one
hour per day doing something for my legs, right arm, or speech. Boy,
is that exercise tedious -- and I can go for a month, seeing no
obvious improvement, which doesn't help with the motivation.
I'm lucky that I'm regaining control of my funky right side; but I'm
not so lucky that the part of the brain, where I had my stroke, is
not very redundant. So, an advance in one area strongly affects a
seemingly very different area. If I do two hours of hand exercise, I
may be almost unable to talk the next day, because my brain has
alotted the new neural pathways to my hands. If I practice speech
for one hour, I can get vertigo and be more wobbly on my feet. So, I
have to be diligent and do all kinds of exercises, to prevent
frustration that I'm just "robbing Peter to pay Paul."
But looking back over the last 7 months, I have improved a lot.

Tiger that is the truth. Calvin gave me a hug, kiss and said he loved me before
he left hunting for the weekend...did the same when he got home...That was MORE
than enough...It works the same for any family member too or friend...It can
mean the world...

I admire Jamie Lee Curtis...she is promoting "Love who you are" and the
wrongness of how women are exploited!!

I have this problem somewhat with my stroke effecting my eyesight...
I can't stress to you enough having an open relationship with her doctor enough
to talk about such things...keep a diary of what is happening. The brain pulls
nasty tricks...arm yourself with all the knowledge about the situation that you
can...neuropaths and pons can be sent to places unknown...these are the
messengers the brain sends out and go to a certain part of the body that you are
to get them but odviously aren't being sent to the proper place...this is
probably what is happening. God bless her and read up on this problem here at
this URL...I am sure Kristi has it on her web but I have it bookmarked too.

plus sizes

Ralph
What a refreshing admonishment as MOST won't admit to this fact at
all. I'm not thin but am not big either, thick I guess you would
say. These darn images of the "perfect" body are just really making
a mess of our poor vulnerable Daughters and Granddaughters. Why
can't real bodies be portrayed? Petite thicker woman need to be
recognized also cause not all are a perfect 14 have slender legs and
long gorilla arms. Fashion industry is seriously out of touch with
reality.

I didn't know personally myself so I asked my friend who has been in
the health field for over 13 years and she told me that "yeah" this
is quite a normal complaint. All depends on which part of the brain
is being affected at the time...how sad...pray that she doesn't
suffer :''( I wish you guys well.

Seeing things!

2007-06-01 09:10:23

I thought I'd ask you all something concerning my mom, first a little history;
she had lung cancer, they fixed that but not before the cancer moved into her
brain. They tried full brain radiation and it did nothing so they told her to
go home and get her things in order. Well since being home at my sisters she
has had what appears to be two strokes or TIA'S. She is complaining of
hallucinations, seeing things that aren't there and not seeing things that are!
She asked me to ask you all if this has ever happened to you or yours. I told
her that time is all I know that will fix this but I'm afraid she doesn't have
much of that left. Any suggestions?
Frank
